10 Things Redditors Would Change About Avengers: Endgame

10 Things Redditors Would Change About Avengers: Endgame

Avengers: Endgame brought an end to the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Infinity Saga with style, pulling together countless different plot points into one visually stunning and widely crowd-pleasing movie that has since become one of the highest-grossing films ever made.

While the response to Endgame has been overwhelmingly positive following its release in 2019, it isn’t a perfect film. Despite having most of their desires met by the fourth Avengers film, some fans on Reddit have revealed what they would have changed about the movie.

10 Justice For Drax

Drax in Guardians of the Galaxy and Thanos in Avengers Infinity War

One Redditor, Rhodium-Veil, suggests that Endgame was sorely lacking a “Drax vs. Thanos” scene. “He [Drax] doesn’t need to be the one to kill him [Thanos],” the Redditor writes, “but they should at least be able to interact.”

This Redditor brings up a valid point in that, after the defeat of Ronan the Accuser in Guardians of the Galaxy, Drax had set his sights on Thanos, vowing revenge for the death of his wife and daughter. However, other than a brief bout in Infinity War, the two characters never interact. It would have been much more satisfying for fans of the character to see Drax at least take one more shot at Thanos before the Mad Titan met his end.

9 The Original Lineup

Gorguf62 believes that Endgame missed a colossal opportunity by leaving out certain heroes from its final battle. They write that, if they could change one thing in the film, they would “include Hank and Janet in the final battle, so we can get a scene of Tony, Thor, Hulk, Hank, and Janet together.”

This Redditor brings up an important point in that all of the founding members of the Avengers team in the comics were present in this film, yet were never all together in one scene. With Tony’s death at the end of the movie, it now seems increasingly unlikely that such a scene will ever exist in the MCU. However, Thor, Hulk, Hank, and Janet were all present at Tony’s funeral, marking the closest fans will ever get to seeing the founding Avengers together onscreen.

8 Natasha’s Funeral

FireJach writes that if they were to change “one thing” about Endgame, they would “add Natasha’s funeral,” referring to a common fan complaint that the film glossed over Black Widow’s death whilst making a major show of Tony’s funeral only a few scenes later.

The lack of a funeral for Black Widow after her many years in the Avengers does seem like a major oversight on the part of the filmmakers behind Endgame. While the film certainly had little time to deal with such things, the very least they could have done was include Natasha in Tony’s funeral tribute at the end of the film, paying homage to one of the founding Avengers.

7 The Black Order

Redditor juances19 believes that Thanos’s league of minions didn’t present as much of a challenge to the Avengers in their second appearance as in their first. They write that, if it had been up to them, they would “have the Black Order actually pose a threat and fight with some other heroes the same way the OG trio had their moment with Thanos.”

6 Tweaking Professor Hulk

Redditor abellapa believes that the entire Hulk storyline in Infinity War and Endgame played out incorrectly, arguing that Bruce Banner becoming Professor Hulk should have been saved for Endgame. They loath the fact that the “Hulk arc [from] Ragnarok” was not properly carried out.

Many fans have taken issue both with the sequence of events leading up to the emergence of Professor Hulk and the reimagined character himself. Ultimately, the entire subplot feels very out of place and sudden. However, viewers could still see the return of a more brutal Hulk, as many fans theorize that Marvel Studios is building up to a World War Hulk event in the future.

5 More Wasp

One Marvel fan, zoecornelia, expresses their wish that “Hope would’ve went with Scott into the Quantum Realm so that they both survived the snap instead of just him. That way, she would’ve had a bigger role in Endgame.” They go on to state their opinion that Hope doesn’t get nearly enough screentime in the MCU as of yet.

It is true that, of all the superheroes to fight in the Battle of Earth against Thanos, Wasp is the one with the least experience with the Avengers. Though her close associate Scott Lang has close ties with Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Hope seems to have no relationship with them whatsoever. Fans can only hope that she gets more screentime with her fellow heroes in coming crossovers.

4 Thor Snaps

“I would’ve switched Thor and Hulk’s role[s,]” writes Fun-Tomatillo-3636 whilst discussing potential changes they would make to Endgame, going on to argue that Thor should have been the one to reverse the Decimation as a way of redeeming himself for failing to stop Thanos the first time.

Thor does seem to have left his major issues with Thanos unresolved by the end of Endgame, despite having been the one to behead the original Mad Titan at the beginning of the film. Though the MCU’s Thor has taken on a more humorous role over the years, he still has this very dramatic plot thread hanging above his head, which fans hope can be resolved in his next adventure.

3 Black Widow Timeline

Though Redditor marvelous_aardvark states that they wish that neither Natasha nor Clint had to die on Vormir, they express that, if Natasha did have to meet her end, her adventures in Black Widow should have already been released by the time Endgame hit theaters. They believe that “seeing her reunion with her family and her sister [already] would have made her death even more emotional and unexpected than it already was.”

This fan makes an excellent point in that, by the time Natasha died, fans were already aware of a solo project featuring the character being in development, somewhat lessening the shock of her death. The extensive delays to Black Widow thereafter due to the COVID-19 pandemic only served to mitigate the impact of Scarlett Johanssen’s MCU swan song.

2 Extra Cameos

AOS-616 believes that the already-iconic Portals sequence before Endgame’s final battle was somewhat incomplete. They write that Marvel should “have [had] the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. show up along with the Defenders and other Marvel television heroes.”

While the heroes depicted in Marvel Television projects were once taboo in the MCU, recent titles have worked to incorporate those series’ characters, inciting hope that fans will one day see their favorite characters enter the MCU proper. Though these good graces have so far only been extended to members of the Defenders universe, many hope to see such a return from other series, especially among the many characters from Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. that deserve to return in the MCU.

1 Steve’s Ending

Steve Rogers and Peggy Carter dancing in Avengers Endgame

Redditor silverBruise_32 was evidently unhappy with the ending granted to Steve Rogers in Endgame’s final scene, writing that they “can’t believe that the man whose arc was about embracing his new life in the future, making friends there (and getting his best friend back) would turn his back on all of that for a woman he kissed once, and who knew lived a full life without him.”

While many fans do share in this Redditor’s distaste for Captain America’s ending, the argument remains that these criticisms miss the point of Steve’s overall character arc. Though he was forced to acclimate to his new life in the present, this was merely the inciting incident to his journey as an Avenger. Rather, his true journey encompasses the understanding of moral greyness, of learning to fight for what he believes in regardless of what others might say. Steve’s ending rubbed many fans the wrong way but was the perfect encapsulation of a man who learned to do away with the naysayers and do what he knew was right for himself.
