2021 MacBook Pro Colors: Which One Should You Buy?

2021 MacBook Pro Colors: Which One Should You Buy?

The 2021 MacBook Pro delivers a gorgeous new design and upgraded specs — but what colors does it come in? Here’s what interested shoppers can expect.

The 2021 MacBook Pro is an incredible machine, and in typical Apple fashion, interested shoppers have a couple of sleek colors to choose from for their new laptop. Over the years, Apple’s settled into an interesting habit with product colors. Bright and shiny hues are now regularly seen in its baseline offerings, but when it comes to ‘Pro’ devices, the company is much more subdued. The iPhone 13 is available in pink, blue, red, green, white, and black. By comparison, the iPhone 13 Pro has muted shades of blue, green, gold, silver, and gray.

In the case of the 2021 MacBook Pro, Apple’s crafted one of its most exciting laptops in years. It’s available in two sizes (14 and 16 inches), has improved M1 Pro and M1 Max chipsets, a mini-LED display, and considerably more ports than the last few generations. If the past MacBook Pros have disappointed potential buyers, the 2021 models may very well be the upgrade folks have been waiting for.

While all of that’s great, there’s one important question that still needs to be answered: What colors does the 2021 MacBook Pro come in? While Apple may have experimented with bright and vibrant colors on the M1 iMac a few months before the MacBook Pro was released, that same creativity didn’t make its way over to the Pro laptop. The 2021 MacBook Pro is available in Space Gray and Silver colors — exactly like the MacBook Pro that came before it. No matter which size or spec configuration someone chooses, these are the only two colors on offer.

The 2021 MacBook Pro In Space Gray

Even with just two available styles, that still means there’s a decision to be made. For most folks, Space Gray will likely be the color of choice. It’s nice and subdued, pairs well with the black keyboard, and just looks all-around fantastic. Space Gray’s been the go-to color for the Mac since the 12-inch MacBook launched in March 2015. Some folks like Space Gray because it’s darker and stealthier than Silver. Other people prefer it because it’s generally considered the more modern choice. Whatever your reason for wanting a Space Gray Mac, it looks excellent on the 2021 MacBook Pro.

The 2021 MacBook Pro In Silver

Comparatively, Silver is a great choice for anyone who wants that iconic MacBook aesthetic. Some may argue that it looks outdated compared to Space Gray, but the combination of the stark silver with the black keyboard is a combination that’s hard to argue with. There’s also an argument to be made that Silver is the more practical of the two colors. Since Space Gray has a painted finish over its aluminum body, there’s a greater chance it’ll show scuffs and scratches more easily. With Silver being closer to a natural aluminum color, any wear and tear won’t be as noticeable.

As good as Space Gray and Silver always look, it is disappointing that Apple doesn’t have any other colors on offer. These are really exciting laptops. They address virtually all of the concerns of previous generations, are more powerful than ever before, and prove that Apple still knows how to make ‘pro’ machines. Having some fun colors to pair all of that with would have been incredible, but alas, Space Gray and Silver are all that we have.
