Batman's Son Robin Must Finally Pick His Destiny In DC Comics

A new preview for DC’s Robin reveals that Damian is going to have to pick his destiny. Will he go back to his father Batman or join his mother Talia?

Warning! Contains a preview for Robin #15

In a new preview for DC Comics’ Robin, Damian Wayne must finally choose his destiny as Batman’s son. Given their significant time apart, it was heavily suggested that Damian would be returning to his father after they reunited during DC’s recent Shadow War crossover. However, it seems as though Damian’s mother Talia al Ghul has other plans for her son in this new preview.

In previous issues of Robin (including those that tied in with Batman and Deathstroke’s Shadow War), Damian Wayne recently concluded the Lazarus Tournament, a dark series of brawls with some of the best fighters the DC Universe had to offer. Every duel was to the death with each fighter was given three resurrections thanks to the power of the island’s massive Lazarus Pit (the island’s primary source of power). During this time, Damian did some massive soul searching about what kind of man he wanted to be and what he might become.

However, Damian has also reconciled with both his mother and father in recent issues. This has in turn created a large fork in the road for Damian’s destiny as seen in the preview for Robin #15 from Joshua Williamson and Roger Cruz. While his father is one of the world’s greatest heroes, Damian’s mother is seeking a new direction for herself as leader of the League of Assassins (following the permanent death of Ra’s al Ghul). Both would like to see Damian join them in their respective crusades. Here are the preview pages and synopsis for the upcoming issue:

ROBIN #15- Damian Wayne is back from the Shadow War and licking his wounds the best way a Wayne knows how…brooding (duh). But in light of the shocking death in the al Ghul family, Robin resolves to dig deeper into the world of the Demon…and a return to Lazarus Island—with Flatline at his side—leaves him with yet another shocking revelation!

Seeing as how the new preview first looks back to the past when Talia al Ghul made Damian choose between her or Batman, it looks as though Damian will now be faced with a similar choice in the present. Bruce and Talia both love Damian and would naturally want him to join them. However, Damian’s Robin has grown quite a bit in the last few years. Considering the recent healing Robin’s had with his parents, the question of who he’ll end up joining is very much up in the air.

Regardless of how it all turns out for Damian in the aftermath of Shadow War, being Robin is very much a part of who he is. However, that doesn’t necessarily mean he’ll be rejoining Batman. Perhaps the time has come for Damian to join his mother and the League of Assassins, helping her turn the shadow organization into something that can have a more positive effect on the world. That being said, Damian Wayne’s Robin could also go his own way and embark on a new crusade all his own. Either way, the full Robin #15 will release on June 28th.
