Blue Beetle BTS Set Photo Gives Best Look Yet At DCEU Hero's Costume

A new Blue Beetle behind-the-scenes set photo gives the best look yet at the DC Extended Universe hero’s costume shortly after images leaked.

A couple months after images leaked of the suit, a new Blue Beetle behind-the-scenes photo has offered the best official look yet at the DC Extended Universe hero’s costume. Xolo Maridueña, best known for his work on Netflix’s Cobra Kai as Miguel Diaz, is set to lead the upcoming film as Jamie Reyes, an El Paso teenager who discovers the alien Blue Beetle scarab that grafts onto his body and gives him a super-powered exosuit. Alongside Maridueña, the cast for Blue Beetle includes Bruna Marquezine, Belissa Escobedo, George Lopez, Adriana Barraza, Elpidia Carrillo, Harvey Guillén, Damián Alcázar, Raoul Trujillo and Susan Sarandon.

Development on the Blue Beetle film was first announced in late 2018 with Miss Bala scribe Gareth Dunnet-Alcocer tapped to write the script. Progress would go quiet for a few years, however, until Charm City Kings’ Angel Manuel Soto was brought on to direct in early 2021 and Warner Bros. slated the film for an HBO Max release. Casting would kick off shortly thereafter, with Maridueña set as Jamie in August 2021 and filming on Blue Beetle kicking off this past May and now audiences are getting an exciting new look from the set.

With production nearing an end on the film, star Bruna Marquezine took to her Instagram (via Reddit account DCEU Leaks) to share a new Blue Beetle BTS set photo. The image gives the best and most official look yet at the DCEU hero’s costume, with Maridueña attached to wires in his super suit. Check out the BTS photo below:

The Blue Beetle BTS set photo revealing the new look at the DCEU hero’s costume comes a couple months after photos leaked from the Atlanta set showing off the eponymous exosuit. Though Warner Bros. has yet to release any public stills of the Blue Beetle suit, Maridueña took to his own Instagram the day they leaked thanking fans for the outpour of love regarding his look in the comics-accurate suit. Much like the previous leaked set photos, the new Blue Beetle BTS image is sure to build anticipation further for fans of the character as it continues to highlight a practical approach to adapting the superhero suit.

With Blue Beetle nearing the end of its production, it seems likely Warner Bros. will begin offering proper looks at the DCEU hero and the rest of the cast in the near future. Additionally, with San Diego Comic-Con kicking off later this week, the studio may be bringing footage of the new film to its Hall H panel this week. Audiences will still be left on their toes waiting for Blue Beetle’s now-theatrical arrival on August 18, 2023.
