DC's Darkest Kryptonite Is About To Turn The Real Superman Evil

In a new preview for World’s Finest #1, Superman is about to get injected with Red Kryptonite, the darkest form of the hero’s weakness.

Warning! Spoilers for Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #1 by DC Comics below

DC Comics is no stranger to making evil versions of Superman, but in a new preview for a new Man of Steel co-starring series, Red Kryptonite is about to transform the real Kal-El into a much darker hero. In a new look at Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #1, Superman faces off against the villain Metallo, who uses Red Kryptonite to stop him in his tracks, injecting the hero with a serum that’s sure to take him down a much more twisted path.

Superman’s greatest weakness has always been Kryptonite, as the green version of the material drains his strength and powers and makes the superhero vulnerable to attack. However, over the years, DC Comics has introduced more than 20 different colors of Kryptonite, all of which have other effects on Superman. For example, Blue Kryptonite is Bizzaro Superman’s biggest weakness, Platinum Kryptonite grants humans Kryptonian powers, and White Kryptonite specifically attacks plant life. However, in a new World’s Finest comic, Red Kryptonite, the most unpredictable and evil version of the material, is unleashed against Superman.

In a new preview of Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #1 by Mark Waid, Dan Mora, Tamra Bonvillain, and Aditya Bidikar, Metropolis is attacked by Poison Ivy. However, the Superman villain Metallo soon joins the battle, as Kal-El senses he’s being powered by Kryptonite. After using Green Kryptonite to make Superman fall to his knees, Metallo reveals he’s also carrying a vile of Red Kryptonite – which has random, dark, often evil effects on its user. Metallo stabs Superman in the chest with the special radioactive blend of Red Kryptonite, causing him to scream out in agony.

The preview of World’s Finest #1 ends with Batman and Robin hearing Superman screaming out in agony after being stabbed with the Red Kryptonite. The pair immediately comes to the aid of their friend. Batman drops Poison Ivy with a heavy kick to the side of the head while Robin impales Metallo with his staff – hitting him right in his chest, which houses the Kryptonite powering him.

It remains to be seen what the effects of the Red Kryptonite will have on Superman, but considering his Red Kryptonite often turns those powered by it evil, it’s probably bad news for Batman and the rest of the DC Universe. Can Batman and Robin figure out how to cure Superman before it’s too late? Readers will learn more about how the Red Kryptonite will impact the hero when Batman/Superman: World’s Finest #1 arrives in comic book stores on Tuesday, March 15, 2022.
