Elden Ring's Tree Sentinel Can Be Defeated While Player Sits & Watches

One Elden Ring player manages to defeat the notorious Tree Sentinel by simply sitting back and letting a trio of spirits battle the early boss.

The battle to become the Elden Lord is incredibly difficult, but one Elden Ring player has managed to defeat the dreaded Tree Sentinel by just sitting back and letting their Spirit Ash summons do all the hard work. Like most of Dark Souls developer FromSoftware’s line of dark fantasy RPGs, Elden Ring features punishing combat and powerful enemies – to the point where even a lowly goat or dung beetle can be lethal if a player lets their guard down. That is to say nothing of Elden Ring’s many bosses and larger enemies, including Elden Ring’s horseback-riding Tree Sentinel and its more powerful Draconic counterpart.

While many Elden Ring players have simply bunkered down and worked to overcome the game’s many punishing battles by studying a given enemy’s attack patterns, others have employed far more creative methods in the quest to gather the scattered fragments of the titular Elden Ring and take up the legendary mantle of the Elden Lord. Through mods, some Elden Ring players have added a handy Pause screen and even given themselves the ability to unleash the full might of the dreaded Elden Ring endgame boss Godfrey the First Elden Lord upon lesser foes like the Godskin Duo. Others have taken advantage of Elden Ring’s assortment of overpowered magic spells to take down enemies in a single hit. Meanwhile, there is at least one would-be Elden Lord that has figured out how to dominate the forces that roam the Lands Between by simply sitting around and doing nothing.

That player is YouTuber Inferno Plus, who recently posted a short gameplay clip of their hands-off approach to battling enemies in Elden Ring to their Twitter account under the handle of Inferbro. As reported by Kotaku, Inferno Plus begins the early game battle against the Tree Sentinel by sneaking up behind the massive warrior and summoning a trio of helpful spirits known as the Raya Lucaria Soldiers. Once they gain the Tree Sentinel’s attention, Inferno Plus sits down atop a nearby rock and rests as their team of ghosts wears down the Sentinel’s health, only rising to their feet to deliver the killing blow after the Spirit Ashes are eventually dispersed. While some Elden Ring players in the comment section of Inferno Plus’s Twitter post were miffed at the implication that the game isn’t as hard as it is made out to be, others were amused by how Inferno Plus was able to take down the Tree Sentinel so easily and shared their own strategies for battling this punishing foe from the early hours of Elden Ring.

Humorous gameplay clips are far from the only way fans have been able to have a laugh in Elden Ring, as the internet has seen its fair share of memes making light of certain aspects of the game – such as Starscourge Radahn’s meteor-like attack supposedly leading to the extinction of the dinosaurs. Other Elden Ring players have used the game’s in-depth character creation system to recreate famous characters like the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Nigel Thornberry from The Wild Thornberrys, and even Ross Gellar from the classic 90s sit-com Friends.

Many have tried and failed to vanquish the mighty Tree Sentinel in Elden Ring, making the fact that Inferno Plus managed to take the great menace down with little to no effort all the more amusing. Elden Ring has quickly become one of the highest-selling video games of 2022, and part of its appeal is the creativity it affords players. While it’s been lauded for the in-depth character creation tools, that creativity extends to the methods players can employ to take down their foes in the unforgiving Lands Between.
