Every Upcoming Adam Sandler Movie

Every Upcoming Adam Sandler Movie

Adam Sandler may have his detractors, but he’s still one of the biggest comedy stars of all time, and thus still there always seems to be a new Adam Sandler film or two in the works. First gaining fame for his years on Saturday Night Live, Sandler used that platform to transition into a big screen leading man, with his first hits including classics like Billy Madison and Happy Gilmore. In the decades since, Sandler has starred in action comedies, romantic comedies, fantasy comedies, western comedies, horror-comedies, and basically every other type of comedy known to man.

While Sandler clearly prefers to stay within his comedic lane, there are rare occasions in which he takes a more dramatic role, with an early example of that being Punch-Drunk Love and a more recent one being Uncut Gems. Somewhat surprisingly, Sandler has actually shown himself to have sizable dramatic chops, although his comedies tend to perform better financially, which is probably why he returns to that well more often. Still, anyone who claims Sandler can’t act is engaging in hyperbole.

In the last several years, Sandler has entered into a popular and lucrative deal with Netflix, producing multiple films for the service. The most recent was Hustle, a sports comedy starring Sandler and a wide roster of NBA players. Not only can fans look forward to more Sandler movies on Netflix, but a few interesting theatrical features as well. Here are all the upcoming Adam Sandler movies.

Billy Madison 2

Billy Madison 2 is perhaps the most anticipated new Adam Sandler movie. This is a tricky inclusion, as while there’s nothing official concerning a sequel to Sandler’s 1995 classic Billy Madison, reports were swirling around online a few months back that Billy Madison 2 was in the early stages. Sandler has never addressed the reports either way, although it would certainly be a change in tune from the comedian, who had played down sequel prospects for years. As much as many fans would no doubt love to see what Billy is up to after 25 years, one wonders if the Billy Madison character would be nearly as charming with Sandler now in his 50s. Still, stranger ideas have managed to work.

Happy Gilmore 2

Fans of Sandler’s early work tend to be divided as to whether Billy Madison or Happy Gilmore is his best 1990s comedy, but fittingly, reports of a potential Happy Gilmore 2 surfaced around the same time as the ones about Billy Madison 2. With Happy Gilmore celebrating its 25th anniversary this year, the film in which Sandler throws down with Bob Barker has been back on fans’ minds, with Sandler actually addressing the idea of a sequel publicly. Sadly, Sandler says that Happy Gilmore 2 hasn’t been discussed, but he did say he’s open to it, especially a particular idea he saw floated by fans concerning Happy and Shooter McGavin rekindling their rivalry during a Seniors Tour. Since Sandler actually talked about this one, it seems more likely than Billy Madison 2 to actually end up becoming reality.

Spaceman

Sandler looks set to flex his dramatic acting muscles again in another upcoming movie project for Netflix, Spaceman, an adaptation of author Jaroslav Kalfar’s novel The Spaceman of Bohemia. Johan Renck, helmer of HBO’s acclaimed Chernobyl miniseries, is onboard to direct. The project was only announced last fall, so things are still in the early stages, but the rather unconventional story of Spaceman centers on an astronaut, played by Sandler, who travels to the far reaches of the galaxy to collect mysterious space dust of ancient origin. When his life back home falls apart, Sandler turns to an unlikely advisor – an ancient alien inhabiting his ship.

Murder Mystery 2

Adam Sandler and Jennifer Aniston in Murder Mystery

Sandler’s most popular Netflix movie yet was 2019’s Murder Mystery, which reunited him with Just Go With It co-star Jennifer Aniston. Sandler and Aniston played a bickering married couple on an overseas vacation that happened to get embroiled in a murder case while aboard a billionaire’s luxurious yacht. By the end of 2019, Netflix had begun prep for Murder Mystery 2, which will see Sandler and Aniston back as the leads, and writer James Vanderbilt returning as well. However, there’s been no concrete updates since then. Still, it’s hard to believe that the sequel was canceled, and development likely just got delayed by the Coronavirus pandemic.

The Sandler-Verse Movie

Adam Sandler as Billy Madison

In fall 2020, shortly before the release of Hubie Halloween, which features several actors and even specific characters from his past films, Adam Sandler said he’d like to one day make a Sandler-verse movie that combined all the popular players from his other work. While he jokingly posited that it would take another several decades for him to feel up to the challenge, the fact that he seems keen to tackle the prospect at all suggests real potential for it to happen. The only probable hurdle might have to do with Sandler being able to obtain the rights to all of his characters, many of which he created while working for different film studios. Still, as big a star as Sandler is, if anyone could pull that off, it would probably be him.

You Are SO Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah!

The most recently announced Adam Sandler Netflix movie, You Are SO Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah!, is an adaptation of the 2005 novel of the same name by Fiona Rosenbloom. The entire Sandler family is reportedly involved in the project, with Sandler’s wife Jackie and daughters Sunny and Sadie also cast in the movie. Alongside Adam Sandler and his clan is Idina Menzel, who also co-starred with him in Uncut Gems. You Are SO Not Invited To My Bat Mitzvah! adapts focuses on Stacy Friedman as she prepares for her titular Bat Mitzvah – the rites of passage ceremony for Jewish girls entering their teenage years. The movie will no doubt be yet another hit from the partnership between Netflix and Sandler’s Happy Madison Productions. It will also serve as a celebration of Jewish culture and heritage, with Crush director Sammi Cohen and Work It screenwriter Alison Peck also on board.
