Every Villain In Ben Affleck’s Batman Mythos (So Far)

Every Villain In Ben Affleck's Batman Mythos (So Far)

Ben Affleck’s Batman has made quite an impact on the DC world since his debut in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. Ben Affleck was yet another victim of the Batman pattern. Fans hated when he was first announced, ended up loving him in the three films he was featured in, and hated when he stepped back from the role.

Now with him having returned in Zack Snyder’s Justice League and will be making a possible final appearance in The Flash movie, fans are ecstatic to see his Batman mythos expand. It already is massive consider how many villains from his mythos have been introduced across the DC Extended Universe.

Updated on March 28th, 2022 by Melody MacReady: A lot has changed with Ben Affleck now confirmed to be appearing in The Flash with a brand new suit and Batcycle. Also, the DC Extended Universe has continued to expand with The Suicide Squad, Zack Snyder’s Justice League, and the upcoming Batgirl movie.

As a result, Batman’s mythos continues to expand with villains from his roster appearing in other films.  Also, previously established villains have gained more screentime and information about them. This could end up being the tradition for the DCEU if Ben Affleck truly leaves the role for good but it also leaves plenty of options for Ben Affleck if he ever returns for his own movie or series.

11 Firefly (Status: Alive)

Firefly’s first appearance for the DC Extended Universe was in a prequel comic book for Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. With a very unique design unlike any seen prior, Garfield Lynns and his crew were captured by Batman.

Now Firefly is set to get his cinematic debut as the enemy of Barbara Gordon in Leslie Grace’s Batgirl for HBO Max. He will be portrayed by famous action star and DC alumni Brendan Fraser, who plays Robotman on DC’s Doom Patrol.

10 Jonny Frost (Status: Deceased)

Joker’s right-hand man in 2016’s Suicide Squad is actually a character from the comics. Not much can be said about Frost other than he seemed like a loyal henchman. Frost helped Joker break into Van Criss Labs to learn about the explosives put into the necks of Task Force X.

Frost came close to helping Joker and Harley reunite but was shot down by Amanda Waller’s forces. He was portrayed by Jim Parrack.

9 KGBeast (Status: Deceased)

Anatoly Knyazev AKA KGBeast - Batman V Superman Dawn Of Justice

Anatoly Knyazev was a mercenary who worked for Lex Luthor in Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice. He helped in the framing of Superman, transported Kryptonite, and was chased by Batman twice in the film. Played by Callan Mulvey, KGBeast did not have a huge role but was effective as this cold-hearted mercenary with a short-lived rivalry with Ben Affleck’s Batman.

His capture of Martha Kent led to one of Ben Affleck’s best scenes as Batman with the now-famous warehouse fight that rivaled something seen in the Batman: Arkham games. Then his death at the hands of Batman was stolen straight from Frank Miller’s The Dark Knight Returns.

8 Ratcatcher 2 (Status: Alive)

Ratcatcher 2 crying with tears of joy as she defeats Starro in The Suicide Squad

Debuting in The Suicide Squad as portrayed by Daniela Melchor, Ratcatcher 2 is not really a villain like how the Batman villain is depicted in the comics. Instead, she’s simply a metahuman trying to survive in a hard world which led to her being sent to Belle Reve. In actuality, Cleo Cazo is the daughter of the original Ratcatcher and she has a good heart.

She’s not a murderer, does not suffer from any mental illness, and does not seek any sort of financial or physical power. All she wants is to do what she can while making friends along the way, even if that means using her control over rats to get things done.

7 Killer Croc (Status: Alive)

Killer Croc in Suicide Squad

Introduced in 2016’s Suicide Squad, Killer Croc, one of Batman’s most famous villains, was portrayed by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje in an unrecognizable role. Killer Croc’s scaly skin prosthetics were so well-crafted to transform the actor, it actually helped in winning Suicide Squad an Oscar for best makeup

Not much is known about the DCEU’s Killer Croc other than he just wants to be left alone. He was chased out of Gotham City by Batman and was captured by ARGUS. He played a huge part in saving the world from the Enchantress. According to the ending of Suicide Squad, he resides happily in Belle Reve.

6 Victor Zsasz (Status: Deceased)

With a love for murder and tally marking each kill on his skin, Victor Zsasz debuted in 2020’s Harley Quinn: Birds Of Prey. Victor, played by Chris Messina, was Roman Sionis’ personal assistant who got pleasure off of murdering people, especially when peeling their faces off.

Victor Zsasz was also personally involved in the murder of the Bertinelli crime family. So when Helena Bertinelli grew up to become Huntress, it made him a target. With the combined efforts of the Birds Of Prey, Victor Zsasz was killed thus sparking a war with Black Mask.

5 Black Mask (Status: Deceased)

Splash screen intro for Roman Sionis AKA Black Mask in Harley Quinn: Birds Of Prey

Played bombastically by Ewan McGregor, Black Mask finally got his film debut as the main villain of Harley Quinn: Birds Of Prey. Though quite different from his comic book counterpart, Black Mask was still one of DC’s most dangerous crimelords. Black Mask hides his true dark nature behind a flamboyant and energetic façade.

Ewan McGregor did a great job swapping between the murderous side of Roman Sionis to the fun-loving club owner. Unfortunately, Ben Affleck may not get the chance to unite with Ewan McGregor due to Cassandra Cain and Harley giving him a bloody end via a grenade.

4 Deathstroke (Status: Alive)

Originally, Joe Manganiello’s Deathstroke debuted in the controversial 2017 version of Justice League with an almost completely different scene. However, in 2021, Zack Snyder’s Justice League put the original scene back in, showcasing Slade Wilson’s personal hatred for the Gotham Guardian.

Lex Luthor tells Deathstroke the true identity of Batman which was meant to set up a solo spin-off for Ben Affleck’s Batman. Unfortunately, since it seems that project won’t be happening, the closest fans got to see was the two characters interact in the Knightmare future sequence in Zack Snyder’s Justice League.

3 Deadshot (Status: Alive)

Will Smith as Deadshot in Suicide Squad

The man who never misses: Floyd Lawton AKA Deadshot was played by Will Smith. Another character who debuted in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad and was a leader to the team. Deadshot is the best at what he does but he does it all to get back to and provide for his daughter.

So while he’s not exactly a “good” guy, he’s definitely more of an anti-hero than a villain. However, he is still an enemy of Batman’s in Gotham City. In fact, Deadshot is one of the few Batman villains audiences have seen fight Batman in the DCEU; this was shown via a surprising cameo of Ben Affleck in Suicide Squad.

2 The Joker (Status: Alive)

It’s impossible to have a Batman without a Joker as his rival somewhere in that canon. For Ben Affleck, it was Jared Leto’s unique yet divisive Joker. Sporting a poorly received look, Leto’s Joker was more of a modern gangster rather than a tribute to old-school gangsters. There’s no denying that Jared Leto made it his own.

Due to reshoots and studio tampering, his role in 2016’s Suicide Squad was reduced significantly. Fans hope to see a David Ayer version of the film much like Zack Snyder’s Justice League. Originally, Joker was presumed to be have been killed by Harley Quinn in Birds Of Prey but the Knightmare sequence in Zack Snyder’s Justice League confirmed that he is still alive, even after the apocalypse.

1 Harley Quinn (Status: Alive)

Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn letting out a battle cry as flowers shower in The Suicide Squad

After becoming a DC universe mainstay due to love from fans in Batman: The Animated Series, it took until 2016’s Suicide Squad for Harley Quinn to get a live-action debut. Margot Robbie portrays the character and much like Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman, Margot is the perfect live-action Harley.

From the various looks, the performance, to even the action sequences: Margot Robbie embodies Harley Quinn. This is why Harley got her own movie with Harley Quinn: Birds Of Prey. She proved to be a stand-out character yet again in James Gunn’s The Suicide Squad.
