Horizon Forbidden West Fast Travel Guide

Horizon Forbidden West Fast Travel Guide

In Horizon Forbidden West, traveling back and forth is a common occurrence. Running around and mounting a machine will only take you so far, and while using the glider definitely helps in shortening distances, there is a better alternative. Using the Horizon Forbidden West fast travel is essential for moving around regardless of distances, and this guide explains everything you should know about using it properly.

How to Unlock Fast Travel in Horizon Forbidden West

If you’re wondering when you can make use of Horizon Forbidden West‘s fast travel, the mechanic becomes available after you unlock the first campfire. It’s likely that you won’t need to fast travel until you venture just a bit further into the main story, but in the meantime, you can expect to have a few campfires unlocked by then.

That is all — from now on you’re free to fast travel to any campfire you have unlocked. Sadly, you can’t just fuck off during fights and disappear out of thin air, but you shouldn’t have a problem doing so in any other situation.

How to Fast Travel for Free in Horizon Forbidden West

There are two ways to use fast travel in Horizon Forbidden West, which are as follows:

You can fast travel from anywhere on the map to a campfire, but this costs one Fast Travel Pack each time.
You can fast travel from a campfire to any other campfire by interacting with it and pressing Square, and there is no cost for doing so.

Simple, right? This makes for an interesting change of pace compared to Horizon Zero Dawn, where you needed certain materials to purchase a Golden Fast Travel Pack. Now, as long as you’re near a campfire, you can go ahead and fast travel without worrying about Fast Travel Packs. If you do want to get more packs anyway, you can purchase them from merchants.

The map is big and it won’t take long for it to become cluttered with icons. If you’re having trouble finding a campfire to fast travel to, you can press Start to filter the search and display campfires alone. This can be especially helpful for settlements since there are usually vendors, a workbench, and a few other icons in between.

If the condition of having to actually use a campfire to fast travel for free in Horizon Forbidden West sounds worrying, don’t fret. The game has campfires pretty much everywhere — at the side of main roads, near settlements, right before entering specific locations during main missions… the list goes on.

In fact, one could argue there are too many of them, but it’s definitely welcomed. Alongside fast travel, you can go ahead and make either a quick or manual save at campfires. It’s hard to lose progress during your travels, which I appreciate since it was easy to get wrecked by a tough enemy in Zero Dawn in the middle of nowhere.

When in doubt, go ahead and use the Horizon Forbidden West fast travel. And if you happen to need more help, don’t miss our guides on skills and Smoke Bombs.
