How to Beat The Rival Room

How to Beat The Rival Room

Finally, it’s time for you to compete in Escape Academy’s famous Rival Room. Gillian has been talking smack since day one, and it’s finally time to put her in her place. If you need help coming out on top, here’s our guide on how to beat The Rival Room in Escape Academy.

First, a reminder: Escape Academy is a timed game. If you’re stopping to look at this guide, make sure the game is properly paused before doing so. You can pause with the Options button on Xbox or the Esc key on PC. Also keep in mind that the inventory screen is not the pause screen, and the in game timer will continue unless you’ve correctly paused.

Escape Academy Rival Room: Activating the Ballista

To advance, the first thing you have to do is use the ballista to drop the bridge to get to the next chamber.

Walk straight ahead and open the brown case on top of the crate. Take the Medium Gear from inside.
Turn back around. Right next to the peg board with the gears is an orange case. Take the Large Gear from inside.
To the left of that case is a locker. Take the Small Gear from inside.
Go to the peg board. Put the Large Gear in the bottom left peg, put the Small Gear in the peg directly in the middle of the board, and put the Medium Gear in the peg all the way to the right. It should look like this:

Then use the gear with the handle on the left to activate the ballista and lower the bridge to the next room.

The Statue Room

The next room is full of statue busts with names on them. There are also names on the transparent glass on the wall between the two chambers. On the back wall, a ticker says “Which 3 can you both see?”

The solution here is to pick names that look the same from both sides — names that are symmetrical when written vertically. To proceed, take the statues marked Timmy, Max and Wyatt and move them to the buttons against the red wall in the back. Max is in the front row, wearing a pirate hat. Wyatt is in the middle row, wearing a cowboy hat. Timmy is in the back row, with a beard and ponytail.

Escape Academy Rival Room: Clearing the Weight Room

The first thing to do when entering this room is to grab the five weights on either side of the scale to your right. This will give you the Red Weight, Blue Weight, Green Weight, Orange Weight, and White Weight.

At the back of the room is a series of digital counters. You have to figure out how many kilograms each weight weighs by comparing them to the others on the scale and ordering them heaviest to lightest. To save you the trouble, here’s how much they each weigh:

Next, you’ll have to put the weights on the blue bars to match the weight at the ends. Depending on where you put them, the weights are multiplied by 1, 2 or 3, so there’s a bit of math involved here. There might be multiple solutions here, but here’s we solved it:

On the bar marked “7 kg,”  put the White Weight on the “x1” slot and the Red Weight on the “x2” slot.
On the bar marked “9 kg,” put the Green Weight on the “x3” slot.
On the bar marked “14 kg,” put the Orange Weight on the “x2” slot and the Blue Weight on the “x3” slot.

After that, the door should open and you can progress to the next room.

Colors and Shapes Room

In this room, you have to rotate a massive machine in order to select shapes in a certain order. There are three square rings, each a different primary color, and buttons that move different pairs of them, depending on their color. For instance, the purple button rotates the blue and red rings, but the orange button rotates the yellow and red ones.

It’s pretty straightforward, but you only have ten moves, so you have to be wary of which buttons you press. There might be a more efficient solution than this, but here’s how we solved it:

Press the left purple button.
Press the left green button.
Walk out to the blue ring and press the circle button.
Press the left orange button twice.
Walk out to the yellow ring and press the spade, then walk to the red ring and press the club.
Press the right green button.
Press the right purple button.
Walk out to the blue ring and press the triangle button.
Press the left green button.
Walk out to the blue ring and press the square button.
Press the right green button.
Walk out to the red ring and press the diamond button, then go to the yellow ring and press the heart button.

If you’ve done it correctly, the back gates should open up, and you can proceed to the final room.

Escape Academy Rival Room Guide: The Double Sided Safe

While the double sided safe may look intimidating, it’s actually just a long series of relatively simple puzzles. As long as you take it one step at a time, you should be fine.

Start in the middle tile marked “Start.” The tiles can be flipped to reveal a dark backside, but what pattern should they be flipped in? If you take a step back, you can see that the shape of the tiles is the same shape as the entire puzzle cabinet. Flip every other tile so the black tiles on the puzzle match the tiles on the cabinet. It should look like this:

Inside, you’ll find the Cabinet Key. Use it in the keyhole on the panel on the right side of the cabinet.
The inside of that cabinet says “Ring The Bells My Dear,” with the letters G, E, A, E, and D underlined. Go to the left side of the cabinet, where the bells are all lined up, and play the underlined letters in that order. Inside, you’ll find a Bronze Medal and a message that says “You’ll escape when pigs fly.”
Go to the panel directly to the left of the starting panel, with the rotating animal rings. You’ll only escape once pigs fly, so make a pig with wings. It should look like this:

Inside that cabinet is a series of arrows. They point up, right, up, left and down. Go to the arrows in the panel to the directly to the left of this one and input those directions in that order. Inside, you’ll find 1 Cent Coins, 5 Cent Coins, and 10 Cent Coins.
Go to the panel in the top right corner. Each column and row has to add up to a certain total. Insert the coins as they are in the image below.

Inside that panel are some Playing Cards. Go to the clock panel in the bottom right of the cabinet. From afar, it might look like a clock, but once you get a good look at it you can see there are four hands, each a different suit of cards. Match the hands of the clock to the corresponding values on each of the four playing cards. Once you’re inside, you’ll get a Silver Medal.
In the back of the cabinet you just opened is the word “bane.” Go to the combination lock in the panel right of the starting tile and rotate the rings to input the word “bane.”
Inside that cabinet is a jar of Marbles. Take that to the final panel (in the bottom right) and select one of the funnels to load them in. The marbles have to fall in a specific order in order to land at the right area. The correct order is yellow, yellow, orange, yellow, orange, orange.
Inside the final panel is the Gold Medal. You finally have all three pieces needed to open the safe! Put each medal in its corresponding location, and the safe will open.

Congratulations! You braved Escape Academy’s Rival Room, defeated Gillian, and won The Apex Badge.
