Dexter Soy’s Red Ronin redesign for Red Hood gets animated in a cool piece of fan art that makes us wish the character became canon.
Dexter Soy’s incredible Red Ronin redesign for Jason Todd gets animated in an incredible fan animation that will make comic fans want the version of the popular antihero to be introduced into DC Comics canon as soon as possible. @NotAntonio4 shared a fun animation test featuring Soy’s “fan art” design of Jason Todd’s Red Ronin, further showcasing how the cool twist on the character would wonderfully fit into the DC Universe.
Red Ronin is technically a character in the DC Universe, as a version of Tim Drake in the animated film Batman: Ninja dawned the moniker. However, the coolest version of a character with the same name comes from Red Hood and the Outlaws artist Dexter Soy, who’s posted his own illustrations of his “fan art” version of Jason Todd on his social media, redesigning the character inspired by Japanese culture and the vigilante nature of being an antihero. The result was the Red Ronin, a non-canon character who might be the best-redesigned version of a DC character who never actually appeared in the universe.

On their Twitter account, @NotAntonio4, who’s done some cool fan art of the Red Ronin redesign, showed off an animation test featuring Dexter Soy’s version of the antihero. The animation is incredibly cool, as the Red Ronin’s red highlights can be seen in the darkness as light briefly reflects on Jason Todd showing off his armor, red mask, handgun, and katanas. For a character who’s already one of the deadliest antiheroes, his Red Ronin “fan art” redesign makes the character cooler than ever before.
Dexter Soy’s redesign might not be official, even if the talented artist has done plenty of work for DC Comics, but it’s hard to deny that the Red Ronin wouldn’t instantly become one of Jason Todd’s best looks if it ever appeared in a story. The Japanese inspired-features, armor, and weapons look absolutely dynamite. Plus, the name Red Ronin is almost a better name than Red Hood, as it’s closer to Robin, which is why it was changed for Tim Drake in the Batman: Ninja animated film.
The animation further proves that the Jason Todd “fan art” is among one of the best redesigns done outside the pages of DC Comics and needs its own official story immediately. Hopefully, one day, DC Comics gives Dexter Soy the chance to write a Red Ronin Black Label series and give him the creative freedom to tell a different kind of Jason Todd story set in his version of the DC Universe.
