Former Bachelor Nick Viall opens up about his relationship with Natalie Joy and discusses their age gap and the “anxiety” it initially gave him.
Former Bachelor Nick Viall opened up about the anxiety surrounding his current relationship and the age gap between him and his girlfriend. Nick has been a staple of The Bachelor franchise since he appeared on The Bachelorette in its 10th and 11th seasons. After that, he participated in the third season of Bachelor In Paradise before becoming the star of the 21st season of The Bachelor in 2016. At the end of his season, he proposed to Vanessa Grimaldi, although the couple split up later that year.
In his two seasons on The Bachelorette, Nick made it close to a proposal, although he came in second place both times. After wrapping up his season of The Bachelor, Nick immediately hopped over to another ABC hit, Dancing With the Stars. He competed on the 24th season of the dance competition and was paired with pro dancer Peta Murgatroyd. The couple finished in sixth place. He pursued an acting career after his reality TV stints and has hosted a podcast, The Viall Files, since 2019.

In a recent interview on the Call Her Daddy podcast, Nick opened up about life since The Bachelor and talked about his current relationship and the anxiety that came with it. Nick has been dating surgical technologist Natalie Joy since 2021. The couple has an 18-year age difference, as Nick is 41 and Natalie is 23. On the podcast, Nick said, “At first, it was something I think I was having a lot of anxiety about. Are we gonna be compatible? And I think early on that was part of the things I would worry about. But the more I got to know her, the more I was just going to her for advice or just checking in with her.” Nick said that Natalie was never concerned about the age gap and always reassured him.
Nick also spoke about the self-doubt he faced while being a part of the Bachelor franchise. He talked about feelings of satisfaction he tried to create, saying, “I kind of became obsessed with meeting as many people as I could and then I realized, I’m just trying to convince everyone to like me and it was such an empty feeling.” Nick mentioned how supportive The Bachelor alumni are of each other, saying that he became good friends with former Bachelor Ben Higgins because of the support he showed him. Nick said that he has grown a lot and learned about “controlling his ego.”
It’s clear that a lot has changed for Nick since being a part of the Bachelor franchise. It’s refreshing to hear how people can mature from being on these shows, and Nick has shown a lot of maturity. Although he still has moments of self-doubt, he is in a healthy relationship with Natalie and their age gap seems to be no problem for the couple. Hopefully more current and future alumni from The Bachelor are able to look to Nick as an example.
