Nokia Is Working On A Mini Version Of Its T20 Tablet

HMD Global is following up its first tablet, the Nokia T20, with a second model. Available details point to it being smaller and cheaper.

HMD Global has a new Nokia tablet coming, one that should arrive as a smaller sibling to the Nokia T20. The pandemic saw an increase in tablet sales thanks to students who had to learn from home. Many brands, some of which had previously exited the tablet space, and others who hadn’t paid it any attention before, took the renewed interest in tablets as an opportunity to launch new models.

Among the latter category is HMD Global which had not launched a tablet since it took over the license to make and sell Nokia-branded mobile devices in 2017. In Nov. 2021, it launched the Nokia T20, a 10.4-inch tablet powered by the Unisoc T610, a processor designed for mid-range devices. The tablet is sold in the U.S. and is an alternative to Samsung’s Galaxy Tab A line of budget tablets.

Less than a year after the launch of the Nokia T20, HMD Global has a new tablet coming, and it has been certified by the Federal Communications Commission. The listing, which was spotted by Slashleaks, reveals the device has the model number TA-1462. It also discloses some of the specs of the tablet, and it points at it being a smaller and cheaper alternative to the Nokia T20.

A More Affordable Nokia Tablet?

The Nokia T20 is more expensive but has a better display and bigger battery

The FCC documents show that the upcoming Nokia tablet will have an eight-inch display. The screen is an LCD panel with a 1280 x 800 resolution. It will also have a 2MP front-facing camera and an 8MP rear camera. HMD Global will ship the tablet with a 5100mAh battery with support for 10W charging. It also reveals the tablet will have a headphone jack. Unfortunately, there are no details about the chipset that will power the device. It is also unknown whether the tablet will have LTE support like the Nokia T20.

When the Nokia TA-1042 arrives, it won’t be without competition. First, there is the Realme Pad Mini, which launched in April 2022. The tablet has an 8.7-inch display, a Unisoc T616 processor and a 6400mAh battery with support for 18W fast charging. It is also available in Wi-Fi and LTE variants. Another contender is Samsung’s Galaxy Tab A7 Lite. This, too, is an 8.7-inch tablet but with a MediaTek processor, a 5100mAh battery and 15W fast charging. Last on the list is Amazon’s new Fire 7 Tablet (2022). While it is smaller than the ones mentioned above, it’s cheaper with a price tag under $100. Details about the release date of the new Nokia tablet are unknown and so also is its price. However, its certification by the FCC means it isn’t far off.
