Titania in She-Hulk

Marvel’s She-Hulk: Attorney at Law actor Jameela Jamil gives the perfect response when asked which are her favorite Marvel Cinematic Universe characters. Jamil plays the vain, super powered, social media influencer, Titania on She-Hulk. Titania and She-Hulk have engaged in both physical and legal battles on the show.

Titania was created by then Marvel Editor-in-Chief/writer Jim Shooter and artist Mick Zeck in Secret Wars #3 in 1984. The crossover event featured a number of Marvel heroes, including She-Hulk, that are taken off Earth to go to Battleworld. There the heroes are expected to fight villains that have also been transported. During this series, Titania and She-Hulk meet and immediately begin their rivalry in the comics. While the two did not meet in space on She-Hulk, the two formed a rivalry in the first episode of the show. Since her first comic appearance, Titania’s origin and backstory have been fleshed out for nearly forty years.

Now that Jamil is part of the MCU, she was asked by io9 who her favorite characters are in that universe. With literally hundreds of characters to choose from, she had the perfect response. Check out her quote below:

“I’ve got two favorite MCU characters. One of them is Loki. And then the other one is genuinely Titania because I think she’s got one of the best back stories of anyone in the Marvel Universe, and one of the most relatable stories, and we don’t get to get into that in She-Hulk, but maybe if [Kevin Feige] lets me back in, we might be able to tell that story, but Loki is, I think Tom Hiddleston, is such an extraordinary actor, but also that character is so heartbreaking and so powerful and so fun and so relentless just cannot take a hint, and I relate to that.”

Jamil answers the question of who her favorite is just as her character would: Titania. The response speaks to her connection to the character and her desire to dig deeper into the Titania’s story. Having Loki be her other choice lines up perfectly with Titania. Despite Loki’s heroic turn, Jamil is drawn to antagonists. Much as Thor and Loki are two sides of the same coin, so are She-Hulk and Titania. Loki and Titania also share a level of pettiness towards their rival as seen when Titania took out a copyright for the name She-Hulk.

One of Jamil’s favorite characters should be Titania. If she is going to be embodying this role, she should be enjoying playing her on She-Hulk: Attorney at Law. Despite Tom Hiddleston saying that he won’t play Loki forever, he also has noted how fun it is to play his character. Actor’s often find more joy in portraying villains or antagonists because it allows them to play a wider and more chaotic range than just a stoic hero. With the number of times Loki has appeared in the MCU, audiences are also clearly drawn to these types of characters. Jamil knows the comic book history of Titania and finds her relatable with a rich backstory. Hopefully in the future she’ll be able to return to this role and expand on it.
