Sitting Fortnite Players Have Already Sprinted Over 7.8 Billion Seconds

It’s only been a couple days since Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 2 began, but players across the globe seem to be very fond of the new traversal abilities already: sprinting in particular. According to a tweet from the game’s official account, folks have sprinted in Fortnite for over 7.8 billion seconds in less than three days, which equals out to a nonstop 247 year-long sprint.

As part of the Resistance season, which debuted on March 20 alongside Marvel’s own Doctor Strange and dozens of new weekly questlines to pursue, you can now both sprint and mantle over walls. These additions work well together with the increased presence of ziplines across the map, adding on the ability to slide on the ground that was introduced at the start of Chapter 3. It’s clear that folks have embraced the wider range of movements available, as the cumulative number is bonkers. I don’t think I’ve ever sprinted for a total of 247 days in my lifetime — I can’t imagine doing so for 247 years.

Nothing’s out of reach anymore! Mantling is an all new mechanic that allows you to scale walls with ease. Jump in now to try it out. pic.twitter.com/VS99IJQ2H3

In case you’ve yet to jump into the new season and experience Fortnite sprinting for yourself, it’s fairly straightforward. By default, you’re always at least doing a light jog, but in order to sprint in Fortnite you just need to press the left analog stick in your controller (or hit Left Shift if you’re using a keyboard) while moving. Once you do, a meter on the bottom-left corner of the screen immediately starts to indicate your Fortnite sprint stamina. Once it runs out, you just need to wait a few seconds. It’s not mandatory to stand still — as long as you’re not sprinting, you’ll recover stamina to do so.

Mantling in Fortnite, on the other hand, requires a bit more precision. Your character can jump quite high as is, which prevents you from just vaulting every obstacle you come across. Instead, you need to find a structure that equals that height, which is why developer Epic mentions “walls” as opposed to just any tall surface. In order to mantle in Fortnite, you just need to hold the jump button as your character is touching the wall you want to vault over.

I’ve tried to mantle a number of slopes to disappointing results, as it seems the mechanic works best when it comes to flat vertical surfaces. Other walls were just a bit more taller than my highest jump, which ended up in failure as well. But all in all, it makes for a decent addition, and one I actually remember it exists. I’ve been doing guides around Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 2 for a few days now, and I always end up having to remind myself that sprint in Fortnite is a thing that exists now. I’m not sure how long it’s going to take until I get used to it, but once I do, you’ll be able to hear the sound of my clown shoes all the way from Tilted Towers.
