Sonic Origins: How to Get More Coins (The Fast Way)

Sonic Origins introduces the in-game currency of Coins, which can be gathered and used to purchase items in the Museum along with extra lives.

Sonic Origins brings back the classic Sonic the Hedgehog games with an added currency in the form of Coins. Players can earn coins to spend in-game by completing various tasks throughout each title. Coins can be exchanged for things in Museum Mode like music, illustrations, and movies, as well as another chance to complete a special stage that was previously failed. While players will encounter Coins naturally throughout the game, there are a few methods used to gather more for later use.

Although players will run into many Coins during normal gameplay, they can go out of their way to stack up more Coins in Sonic Origins. Especially when players want to unlock every museum item in Sonic Origins, they will want to be on the lookout for more Coins. Since Coins are a new addition to the Sonic series, returning players may also need some help finding more Coins, even though they are obtained using classic Sonic mechanics.

Coins replace a familiar mechanic in the Sonic series used to gain extra lives. Usually, when players accumulate 100 rings and reach a score of 50,000, they will gain an extra life for Sonic. In Sonic Origins, the extra life has been replaced by a Coin. First and foremost, players should be gathering as many rings as possible to get more Coins fast. Additionally, the boxes that used to contain an extra life in the previous Sonic games now contain a Coin. The boxes with Coins are in the same locations as the extra life boxes from the original games; it doesn’t take Super Sonic to find them.

Players can also play a couple of different game modes in Sonic Origins to gain more Coins rapidly. Playing Mission Mode usually nets players a significant number of Coins to spend in the Museum. When players complete a mission in Mission Mode, they will earn a notable sum of Coins. Players get a bonus Coin reward the first time they beat a mission, with a higher number of Coins being rewarded for S-tier mission results.

Players can also play Boss Rush mode to switch up the gameplay loop for farming Coins. Boss Rush requires players to take on bosses of Eggman’s creation one-by-one with only three lives to spare. Each game has a different Boss Rush mode, and Sonic CD is debatably the easiest game to complete the task. This is the most difficult method of farming Coins, to the point where playing Sonic Origins with friends would be harder than playing Mission Mode to gather riches.
