Superman & Lois season 3 is losing an original cast member as Jordan Elsass is exiting the series, and the role of Jonathan Kent will officially be recast. Since the Arrowverse began in 2012, the franchise has managed to bring multiple iconic DC Comics characters to life. Starting with Arrow, the Green Arrow-centric drama was the first step in launching a massive shared DC TV universe from executive producer Greg Berlanti. As the franchise is turning 10 years old this October, the Arrowverse has gone through multiple changes over the years.

One of the biggest changes was the addition of Superman & Lois, starring Tyler Hoechlin and Elizabeth Tulloch as the respective titular characters. Despite initially being conceived as an Arrowverse spinoff, it was revealed in Superman & Lois season 2 that the DC drama actually takes place on an alternate Earth, rather than exist on Earth-Prime. Although Hoechlin and Tulloch have different versions of their characters on Earth-Prime, the Superman & Lois twist wouldn’t be the only massive surprise for the series going forward in 2022.

After starring as Jonathan Kent since season 1, Elsass is officially exiting Superman & Lois and won’t be back for season 3, reports Deadline. According to the trade, Warner Bros. TV provides the following statement about Elsass’ departure and confirms that the role of Lois and Clark’s son will be recast for the next season.

“Jordan Elsass has notified the Studio that he will not be returning to Superman & Lois for season three due to personal reasons. The role of Jonathan Kent will be recast.”
