Teen Wolf Future After Movie Addressed By Jeff Davis

Teen Wolf Future After Movie Addressed By Jeff Davis

Jeff Davis vaguely teases the future of Teen Wolf at SDCC, suggesting that there have been talks to continue the show after the sequel movie.

Showrunner Jeff Davis teases the future for Teen Wolf after the upcoming movie. The smash hit MTV YA drama series, which aired for six seasons from 2011 to 2017, saw Tyler Posey’s college sophomore Scott McCall transform into a werewolf as he sought to protect his Californian hometown Beacon Hills from supernatural forces. Although it’s been five years since the show ended, it remains popular, with its streaming run on Netflix helping it foster a new audience. Due to this continued success, it was announced in 2021 that a sequel film called Teen Wolf: The Movie was in development, and it’s due to release on Paramount+ later this year.

SCREENRANT VIDEO OF THE DAY

Initially, details on the sequel film were quite obscure, although it was announced that Teen Wolf: The Movie would see the return of the original show’s core cast save for a few exceptions like Dylan O’Brien, Arden Cho, and Cody Christian. But on Thursday, during Paramount+’s San Diego Comic-Con panel, the first teaser trailer for Teen Wolf: The Movie was released, previewing Allison’s (Crystal Reed) ominous return from the dead. During the event, stars like Posey and Tyler Hoechlin also discussed how their characters have changed between the show and the movie. From their comments, it seemed as if the fan-favorite characters would meet devastating fates, although it’s not necessarily the case.

During Paramount+’s SDCC panel, where Screen Rant was in attendance, Davis, who serves as the EP and screenwriter for the Teen Wolf sequel movie, hinted at the show’s future beyond the film. He did not go into details. Rather, he vaguely mentioned that there have been a few discussions to “do more Teen Wolf” in the future. Davis did not elaborate much on the prospect and moved on to address specific questions about Teen Wolf: The Movie.

Teen Wolf Movie Still

One reason why Davis’ response to inquiries about Teen Wolf’s future is so obscure is likely due to the fact that talks about continuing the show might be at a very nascent stage. It’s likey that there hasn’t been a concrete output from the conversations, so Davis wouldn’t want fans to get needlessly excited. At the SDCC, Davis revealed that he did a sequel movie instead of Teen Wolf season 7 simply because he couldn’t crack a story long enough for a full show. So logically, some creative roadblocks are holding the showrunner back from continuing his beloved series. But once Teen Wolf: The Movie is out, the potentially unresolved arcs from its shocking ending would inspire the producer to come up with new ideas, prompting him to pick up the original characters’ journeys.

While prospects of revival remain obscure, the franchise would still continue in another way, as Teen Wolf: The Movie leads into the spin-off show Wolf Pack. So far, none of the legacy characters have been confirmed to appear in the new series, but with the sequel movie setting up the spinoff, prospective overlaps cannot be ruled out. Right now, it seems there isn’t a solid strategy in place to continue the original show. But as the Teen Wolf spinoff’s performance demonstrates a real interest in the franchise, it will likely set plans for a revival or a reboot in motion. That said, considerations to make more Teen Wolf in the future is a promising update for many loyalists, and regardless of whether or not the talks come to fruition, it’s still exciting to see that the creators are paying heed to fans’ wishes for Teen Wolf’s continuation and trying to come up with ideas and stories for the same.
